Estrato (linguística)
Na linguística, um estrato ou strate é um idioma que influencia, ou é influenciado por outro através do contato. Um substrato ou substrato é um idioma que tem menor poder ou prestígio do que outro, enquanto um superstratum ou superstrato é o idioma que tem maior poder ou prestígio. As linguagens de substratum e superstratum influenciam-se, mas de diferentes maneiras. Um adstratum ou adição refere-se a um idioma que está em contato com outro idioma em uma população vizinha sem ter um prestígio identificável ou maior. A noção de "estratos" foi desenvolvida pela linguista italiana Graziadio Isaia Ascoli e conhecida no mundo de língua inglesa por dois autores diferentes em 1932. Assim, ambos os termos se referem a uma situação em que uma linguagem intrusiva se estabelece no território de outro, tipicamente como resultado da migração. Se o caso superstratum ou o substrato se aplica, normalmente só será evidente após várias gerações, durante as quais a linguagem intrusiva existe dentro de uma cultura da diáspora.
