A glândula tireoidea ou simplesmente a tireoide / θaɪərɔɪd /, na anatomia dos vertebrados, é uma das maiores glândulas endócrinas e consiste em dois lobos conectados. A glândula tireoidea é encontrada no pescoço, abaixo da cartilagem da tireoideia (que forma a proeminência laríngea, ou "Maçã de Adão"). Estes hormônios regulam o crescimento e a taxa de função de muitos outros sistemas no corpo. T3 e T4 são sintetizados a partir de iodo e tirosina. A tireoide também produz calcitonina, que desempenha um papel na homeostase de cálcio. A produção hormonal da tireóide é regulada pelo hormônio estimulante da tireoide (TSH) produzido pela hipófise anterior, que é regulada pelo hormônio liberador de tirotropina (TRH) produzido pelo hipotálamo.
