Tinamou
Tinamous formam uma ordem que compreende uma família única, com duas subfamílias distintas, contendo 47 espécies de aves encontradas no México, América Central e América do Sul. A palavra "tinamou" vem do termo Galibi para estes pássaros, tinamu. Um dos mais antigos grupos vivos de pássaros, eles aparecem pela primeira vez no registro fóssil na época do Mioceno. Tinamous tem sido tradicionalmente considerado como o grupo irmão das ratites sem vôo, mas o trabalho recente os coloca bem dentro da radiação de ratita, o que implica que as ratites basais foram desarmadas. Eles geralmente são sedentários, morados e, embora não são imperceptíveis, quando possível, evite o vôo em favor de se esconder ou fugir do perigo.
