Vlachs
Vlach é um termo geral que abrange vários povos latinos modernos que descem da população latinizada no atual território da Romênia e da Moldávia, bem como a parte sul da península balcânica e sul e oeste do rio Danúbio. O termo Vlachos vem da palavra alemã de origem celta Walh, que os antigos alemães costumavam chamar de romanos e, mais amplamente, os povos que foram incorporados administrativamente e culturalmente ao mundo romano. Os eslavos medievais "emprestaram" a palavra e, assim, transformaram fonéticamente em Vlah. Nessa forma, tornou-se um termo usado para definir populações no Sudeste da Europa que falam variações da língua balcânica-romana, ou seja, os dialetos neo-latinos da região dos Balcãs. As variações inglesas do nome incluem Wallachians, Walla, Wlachs, Wallachs, Vlahs, Olahs ou Ulahs. Grupos que historicamente foram chamados de Vlachs incluem Romanianos modernos, Aromanianos, Morlachs, Megleno-Romanianos e Istro-Romanianos. Desde a criação do estado romeno, o termo em inglês tem sido usado principalmente para pessoas que vivem fora da Romênia.
