Enigma

Enigma - codificador eletromecânico portátil alemão, baseado no princípio dos rotores rotativos, desenvolvido por Artur Scherbius e posteriormente produzido por Scherbius \u0026 amp; Ritter. A fábrica foi fundada em 1918 por Scherbius e outro engenheiro alemão Richard Ritter e esteve envolvida na concepção e fabricação de equipamentos elétricos, incluindo motores assíncronos. Scherbius comprou direitos de patente para outro codificador de rotor, desenvolvido pelo engenheiro holandês Hug Koch. Artur Scherbius não foi o primeiro a construir um mecanismo de criptografia baseado em rotor. Além de ele e Hugon Koch, Edward Hebern e Arvid Gerhard Damm também trabalharam em dispositivos semelhantes, mas somente Scherbius e seu Enigma conseguiram apresentá-lo ao mercado civil e depois às instituições do estado. Enigma tem sido comercialmente utilizada desde a década de 1920 e foi posteriormente adaptada por instituições do estado em muitos países.

Enigma – niemiecka przenośna, elektromechaniczna maszyna szyfrująca, oparta na zasadzie obracających się wirników, opracowana przez Artura Scherbiusa, a następnie produkowana przez wytwórnię Scherbius & Ritter. Wytwórnia ta została założona w 1918 z inicjatywy Scherbiusa oraz innego niemieckiego inżyniera Richarda Rittera i zajmowała się konstrukcją i produkcją urządzeń elektrotechnicznych, między innymi silników asynchronicznych. Scherbius odkupił prawa patentowe do innej wirnikowej maszyny szyfrującej, opracowanej przez holenderskiego inżyniera Hugona Kocha. Artur Scherbius nie był pierwszym, który skonstruował maszynę szyfrującą opartą na wirnikach. Poza nim i Hugonem Kochem prace nad podobnymi urządzeniami prowadzili także Edward Hebern i Arvid Gerhard Damm, ale tylko Scherbius ze swoją Enigmą osiągnął sukces, wprowadzając ją najpierw na rynek cywilny, a później do instytucji państwowych. Enigma była używana komercyjnie od lat 20. XX wieku, a później została zaadaptowana przez instytucje państwowe wielu krajów.
