A secessão vienense foi um movimento artístico em Viena em 1897, seguindo o modelo "Secessão de Munique" e pouco antes da "Secessão de Berlim". O movimento reuniu principalmente artistas plásticos, pintores, artistas gráficos e arquitetos, que se separaram da tradição historicista, dominante na Europa e América do Norte, onde o nome Secession foi. O termo "secessão", uma variante alemã da corrente "Art Nouveau" que surgiu na Europa no final do século XIX e no início do século XX, aplicou-se aos círculos artísticos de todos os esforços de separação dos padrões antigos, buscando formas de combater empobrecimento e uniformidade dos padrões de produção industrial. A secessão começou na Alemanha em 1892, abrindo a série dos dissidentes à arte acadêmica promovida pela "Munich Art Association". Franz von Stuck, Fritz von Uhde, Wilhelm Trübner, Arnold Böcklin, e assim por diante.

Secesiunea vieneză a fost o mișcare artistică apărută în 1897 la Viena, după modelul "Secesiunii müncheneze" și scurt timp înainte de "Secesiunea berlineză". Mișcarea a reunit mai ales artiști plastici, pictori, graficieni și arhitecți, care s-au rupt de tradiția istoristă, dominantă în vremea respectivă în Europa și America de Nord, de unde numele de Secession. Termenul de "secesiune", o variantă germană a curentului "Art Nouveau" apărut în Europa la sfârșitul secolului al XIX-lea și începutul secolului XX, s-a aplicat în cercurile artistice tuturor eforturilor de desprindere din vechile tipare, căutându-se căi de combatere a sărăcirii și uniformizării comportate de standardele producției industriale. Secesiunea debutează în Germania în 1892, deschizând seria dizidenților față de arta academistă promovată de "Asociația artistică din München". Din această mișcare făceau parte Franz von Stuck, Fritz von Uhde, Wilhelm Trübner, Arnold Böcklin ș.a.
