Aeschynomene elafroxilon
Aeschynomene elaphroxylon, cunoscut și sub numele de arbore de lemn de arțar, lemn de balsa sau lemn de balsa, este un arbust comun, copac mic din genul Aeschynomene din familia Fabaceae. Acesta poate crește până la 9 m înălțime, cu tulpini spinoase și perechi de spini substanțiali sub fundul frunzelor. A. elafroxilonul este indigen în anumite părți ale Africii tropicale. De obicei, crește în apă și în soluri înregistrate în apă, cum ar fi râuri, lacuri și mlaștini, în țări precum Ghana și Nigeria, dar este răspândită în Africa tropicală în Etiopia și Sudan și mai departe spre sud și est în Zimbabwe. Semințele de A. elaphroxylon au fost cunoscute pentru a rămâne viabile după ce au fost îngropate de câțiva ani în băncile cu apă în care se dezvoltă bine. Semințele sunt cuprinse în păstăi care cresc în spirale aplatizate, erecte pe copac. Arborele are noduli de fixare a azotului în tulpină. În Etiopia, speciile se găsesc în Parcul Național Nechisar.
