Aztecii / æztɛk / oamenii erau anumite grupuri etnice din centrul Mexicului, în special acele grupuri care vorbeau limba Nahuatl și care dominau mari părți din Mesoamerica din secolele 14-16. Cuvintele Nahuatl aztecatl și aztecah înseamnă "oameni din Aztlan", un loc mitologic pentru cultura vorbită de Nahuatl de atunci și mai târziu adoptată ca cuvânt pentru a defini poporul din Mexica.
