Francesco Borromini
Francesco Borromini, numit de Francesco Castelli, a fost un arhitect italian născut în Ticino de astăzi care, împreună cu contemporanii săi, Gian Lorenzo Bernini și Pietro da Cortona, a fost o figură principală în apariția arhitecturii baroce romane. Un studențitor al arhitecturii lui Michelangelo și a ruinelor antichității, Borromini a dezvoltat o arhitectură inventivă și distinctivă, chiar dacă idiosincratică, care foloseste manipulări ale formelor arhitecturale clasice, raționamente geometrice în planurile sale și semnificații simbolice în clădirile sale.
