În botanică, un bulb este o tulpină scurtă cu frunze cărnoase sau baze de frunze care funcționează ca organe de depozitare a alimentelor în timpul perioadei de dormit. Bazele unei frunze ale bulbilor, cunoscute și sub denumirea de balanțe, în general nu susțin frunzele, ci conțin rezerve alimentare pentru a permite plantei să supraviețuiască condițiilor adverse. În centrul bulbului este un punct de creștere vegetativă sau un foc de flori neexpandat. Baza este formată dintr-o tulpină, iar creșterea plantei are loc pe această placă bazală. Rădăcinile apar din partea inferioară a bazei și se introduc noi tulpini și frunze din partea superioară. Becurile tunicate au cântare uscate, membranoase, care protejează lama continuă a cânilor cărnoase. Specii din genurile Allium, Hippeastrum, Narcissus și Tulipa au toate becurile de tunicat. Becurile non-tunica, cum ar fi speciile Lilium și Fritillaria, nu dispun de tunica protectoare și au cântare mai libere. Alte tipuri de organe de stocare sunt denumite uneori bulbii, deși termenul este folosit în botanică, acestea nu sunt. Termenul tehnic pentru plantele care formează organe de stocare subterană, inclusiv bulbi, precum și tuberculi și cormi, este geophyte.
