ETIMOLOGIA CUVÂNTULUI BULRUSH
Bulrish, bul- perhaps from bull1 + rishrush², referring to the largeness of the plant; sense 2 derived from the famous painting by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836–1912), Dutch-born English painter, of the finding of the infant Moses in the "bulrushes" — actually reed mace.

Bulrush sau bullrush este numele comun pentru mai multe plante de iarbă mare, asemănătoare zonelor umede, de obicei în familia de șarpe. Denumirea este aplicată mai ales în cazul mai multor genuri din familia țânțarilor: ▪ Cyperus, genul care include speciile de plante menționate mai sus în contul biblic al Chivotului de bulgare ▪ Scirpus este un gen cunoscut sub numele de bulrushes în America de Nord, care în circumscripțiile anterioare au inclus și specii clasificate acum în genurile: ▪ Bolboschoenus ▪ Schoenoplectus În afara familiei de șarpe, numele este folosit pentru Typha, un gen din familia Typhaceae. Societatea Botanică a Marii Britanii și a Irlandei recomandă ca "nume" pentru plantele din genul Typha. Cu toate acestea, aceste specii sunt cunoscute sub numele de reed mace "în Marea Britanie.
