Chronogram
O cronogramă este o propoziție sau o inscripție în care anumite litere, interpretate ca cifre, reprezintă o anumită dată când sunt rearanjate. Cuvântul, adică "scrierea timpului", derivă din cuvintele grecești chronos și gramma. În cronograma pură fiecare cuvânt conține o cifră, cronograma naturală afișează toate cifrele în ordinea numerică corectă, de ex. AMORE MATVRITAS = MMVI = 2006. Cronogramele în versification sunt numite chronosticha dacă sunt scrise în hexametru și chronodisticha dacă sunt scrise în distich. În vechea tradiție indoneziană hindusă-budistă, în special în vechea Java, cronogramele erau numite chandrasengkala și de obicei folosite în inscripții pentru a semnifica un anumit an în calendarul Saka. Anumite cuvinte au fost atribuite numărului lor specific și s-au format expresii poetice din aceste cuvinte selectate pentru a descrie anumite evenimente care au propriile lor semnificații numerice. De exemplu, candrasengkala "sirna ilang kertaning bumi" corespunde anului 1400 din calendarul Saka, data căderii Imperiului Majapahit.
