Coniferele, diviziunea Pinophyta, cunoscută și sub denumirea de diviziune Coniferophyta sau Coniferae, sunt una dintre cele 12 taxoni existente la nivel de Diviziune în Regatul Plantae și 10 în cadrul plantelor terestre extinse. Pinofitele sunt gimnosperme, plante de sămânță cu țesut conic cu țesut vascular. Toate coniferele existente sunt plante lemnoase, marea majoritate fiind arbori cu doar câteva arbuști. Printre exemplele tipice de conifere se numără cedrii, douglas-brazi, chiparoși, brazi, ienuperi, kauri, larce, pini, hemlocks, redwoods, molid și yews. Diviziunea conține aproximativ opt familii, 68 genuri și 630 specii vii. Deși numărul total de specii este relativ mic, coniferele au o importanță ecologică imensă. Ele sunt plantele dominante pe suprafețe uriașe de teren, în special pădurile boreale ale emisferei nordice, dar și în zone climatice similare în munți din sud. Coniferele boreale au multe adaptări pe timpul iernii. Forma conică îngustă a coniferelor nordice și membrele lor în jos, ajută la vărsarea zăpezii. Mulți dintre ei își modifică sezonier biochimia pentru a le face mai rezistenți la îngheț, denumită "întărire".
