Deconectarea este decuplarea tuturor legăturilor dintre un Scientolog și un prieten, coleg sau membru al familiei considerat a fi antagonist față de scientologie. Practica deconectării este o formă de evitare. Printre Scientologi, deconectarea este privită ca o metodă importantă de a înlătura obstacolele din calea creșterii spirituale. În unele cazuri, deconectarea a încheiat căsătoriile și copiii separați de părinți. Biserica Scientologică a negat în repetate rânduri că există o astfel de politică, deși în februarie 2012 site-ul său a recunoscut practica și a descris-o drept drept uman.
