Donatism
Donatismul era o sectă creștină în provincia romană din Africa care a înflorit în secolele al patrulea și al cincilea printre creștinii berberi. Donatismul își are rădăcinile în presiunile sociale din comunitatea creștină a Africai de Nord romane, îndelungată, în timpul persecuțiilor creștinilor sub Dioclețian. Donatiștii erau membri ai unei biserici schismatice care nu era în comuniune cu bisericile din restul creștinismului timpuriu în antichitate târzie. Donatismul a fost un rezultat indirect al persecuțiilor lui Dioclețian. Guvernatorul Africii a fost indulgent în favoarea marii minorități creștine aflate sub conducerea sa în timpul persecuțiilor.
