El Escorial
Site-ul regal al orașului San Lorenzo de El Escorial este o reședință istorică a regelui Spaniei, în orașul San Lorenzo de El Escorial, la aproximativ 45 de kilometri nord-vest de capitala Madrid, în Spania. Este unul dintre site-urile regale spaniole și funcționează ca o mănăstire, palat regal, muzeu și școală. Există un alt oraș, la 2.06 km mai departe în vale, numit "El Escorial". Escorial cuprinde două complexe arhitecturale de mare importanță istorică și culturală: mănăstirea regală însăși și La Granjilla de La Fresneda, o cabană de vânătoare regală și un refugiu monahal la aproximativ cinci kilometri distanță. Aceste site-uri au o natură duală; adică în secolele XVI și XVII, au fost locuri în care puterea monarhiei spaniole și predominanța ecleziastică a religiei romano-catolice din Spania au găsit o manifestare arhitecturală comună. El Escorial era, imediat, o mănăstire și un palat regal spaniol. Inițial o proprietate a călugărilor ieroniți, este acum o mănăstire a Ordinului Sfântului Augustin.
