În matematică, extrapolarea este procesul de estimare, dincolo de intervalul inițial de observație, a valorii unei variabile pe baza relației sale cu o altă variabilă. Este similar cu interpolarea, care produce estimări între observațiile cunoscute, dar extrapolarea este supusă unei incertitudini mai mari și unui risc mai mare de a produce rezultate fără sens. Extrapolarea poate însemna și extinderea unei metode, presupunând că se vor aplica metode similare. Extrapolarea se poate aplica și experienței umane pentru proiectarea, extinderea sau extinderea experienței cunoscute într-o zonă necunoscută sau experimentată anterior pentru a ajunge la o cunoaștere a necunoscutului. Metoda de extrapolare poate fi aplicată în problema reconstrucției interioare.
