Galvanizare
Galvanizarea este procesul de aplicare a unui strat protector de zinc la oțel sau fier, pentru a preveni ruginirea. Termenul derivă din numele omului de știință italian Luigi Galvani. Deși galvanizarea se poate face cu procedee electrochimice și electrodepunere, cea mai obișnuită metodă în uz curent este galvanizarea la cald, în care piesele de oțel sunt scufundate într-o baie de zinc topit. În industrie, termenul GI înseamnă fier galvanizat, referindu-se la oțel zincat comun, utilizat în multe aplicații, cum ar fi conductele de aer și cutii de gunoi.
