Gerbera
Gerbera L. este un gen de plante ornamentale din familia floarea-soarelui. A fost numit în onoarea botanistului german și naturalistului Traugott Gerber, care a călătorit extensiv în Rusia și a fost prieten cu Carolus Linnaeus. Are aproximativ 30 de specii în sălbăticie, extinzându-se în America de Sud, Africa și Asia tropicală. Prima descriere științifică a unui Gerbera a fost făcută de J.D. Hooker în revista botanică Curtis în 1889, când a descris Gerbera jamesonii, o specie sud-africană cunoscută și sub numele de Daisy Transvaal sau Barberton Daisy. Gerbera este, de asemenea, cunoscută sub numele de Daisy din Africa. Specii de Gerbera poartă un capituliu mare cu florete de raze cu două buze, în culori galben, portocaliu, alb, roz sau roșu. Capitulul, care are aspectul unei singure flori, este compus, de fapt, din sute de flori individuale. Morfologia florilor variază în funcție de poziția lor în capitul. Capetele de flori pot fi la fel de mici ca diametrul de 7 cm sau până la 12 cm. Gerbera este foarte populară și folosită pe scară largă ca o grădină decorativă sau ca flori tăiate.
