Ginkgo
Ginkgo este un gen de plante extrem de neobișnuite, non-înfloritoare. Numele științific este, de asemenea, folosit ca denumirea engleză. Genul a apărut pentru prima dată în Permian, acum 250 de milioane de ani, posibil derivat din "ferigi de semințe" din ordinul Peltaspermales. Rata de evoluție a genului a fost lentă și aproape toate speciile sale au dispărut până la sfârșitul Pliocenului; excepția este singura specie vie, Ginkgo biloba, care se găsește numai în sălbăticie din China, dar este cultivată în întreaga lume. Relațiile dintre ginkgos și alte grupuri de plante nu sunt pe deplin rezolvate.
