Islay
Islay, este cea mai sudică insulă a Hebridei Interioare din Scoția. Cunoscută sub numele de "Regina Hebrilor", ea se află în Argyll la sud de vest de Jura și la aproximativ 40 de kilometri nord de coasta irlandeză. Capitala și cea mai mare așezare a insulei este Bowmore, unde se află districtuala Biserica parohială Kilarrow și o distilerie. Portul Ellen este portul principal. Islay este a cincea cea mai mare insula scoțiană și cea de-a șaptea cea mai mare insulă din Marea Britanie, cu o suprafață totală de aproape 620 kilometri pătrați. Există dovezi ample despre așezarea preistorică din Islay și prima referință scrisă a venit în secolul I d.Hr. Insula devenise parte a Regatului galic al Dál Riata în Evul Mediu timpuriu înainte de a fi absorbită în Regatul Norvegian al insulelor. Perioada medievală ulterioară a marcat un "punct culminant cultural" prin transferul Hebrilor către Regatul Scoției și apariția Clanului Donald Lordship of the Isles, inițial centrat la Finlaggan. În secolul al XVII-lea, steaua clanului Donald a dispărut, însă îmbunătățirile în agricultură și transport au dus la o populație în creștere, care a atins punctul culminant la mijlocul secolului al XIX-lea.
