Krakatoa
Krakatoa sau Krakatau este o insulă vulcanică situată în strâmtoarea Sunda între insulele Java și Sumatra din Indonezia. Numele este folosit și pentru grupul insular din jurul său, care cuprinde resturile unei insule mult mai mari de trei vârfuri vulcanice, care a fost distrusă într-o erupție cataclismică din 1883, dezlănțuind tsunami uriase și distrugând peste două treimi din insulă. Explozia este considerată a fi cel mai puternic sunet pe care l-au auzit vreodată în istoria modernă, rapoartele că au fost auzite până la 3000 de mile de la punctul său de origine. Valurile de șoc de la explozie au fost înregistrate pe barografe din întreaga lume. În 1927, o nouă insulă, Anak Krakatau sau "Copilul de Krakatoa", a ieșit din caldera formată în 1883 și este locația actuală a activității eruptive.
