Lag este o eșec al unei aplicații de a răspunde în timp util la intrări. În ceea ce privește jocurile video, lag este întârzierea dintre o acțiune a unui jucător și reacția jocului. În aplicațiile distribuite, întârzierea este adesea cauzată de latența comunicării, care este timpul necesar pentru trimiterea unui pachet de date care urmează să fie primite la celălalt capăt.
