Politica de stânga
În politica stânga-dreapta, politica de stânga reprezintă poziții sau activități politice care acceptă sau sprijină egalitatea socială, adesea în opoziție cu ierarhia socială și inegalitatea socială. În mod obișnuit, acest lucru este justificat de îngrijorarea celor din societate care sunt percepuți ca fiind relativ dezavantajați față de ceilalți și de presupunerea că există inegalități nejustificate care trebuie reduse sau eliminate. Termenii politici Stânga și Dreapta au fost inventați în timpul Revoluției Franceze, referindu-se la aranjamentul de așezare în Generalul de Stat: cei care s-au așezat pe stânga au opus în general monarhiei și au sprijinit revoluția, inclusiv crearea unei republici și secularizarea, dreptul era de susținere a instituțiilor tradiționale ale vechiului regim. Folosirea termenului "stânga" a devenit mai proeminentă după restaurarea monarhiei franceze în 1815, când a fost aplicată "independenților". Termenul a fost ulterior aplicat unui număr de mișcări, în special republicanismului în timpul Revoluției Franceze, socialismului, comunismului și anarhismului.
