Levant
Levantul, cunoscut și sub denumirea de estul Mediteranei, este o regiune geografică și culturală formată din "litoralul estic mediteranean dintre Anatolia și Egipt". Levantul astăzi este format din insula Cipru, Israel, Iordania, Liban, Siria, Palestina și o parte din sudul Turciei. Definițiile precise au variat în timp, iar termenul a avut inițial o utilizare mai largă și mai puțin bine definită. Levantul a fost descris ca fiind "intersecția dintre Asia de Vest, Mediterana de Est și Africa de Nord-Est".
