Un dispozitiv mnemonic sau mnemonic este orice tehnică de învățare care ajută la păstrarea informației. Mnemonicii urmăresc să traducă informațiile într-o formă pe care creierul o poate păstra mai bine decât forma originală. Chiar și procesul de învățare a acestei conversii ar putea ajuta deja la transferul de informații către memoria pe termen lung. Mnemonicurile întâlnite frecvent sunt adesea folosite pentru liste și în formă auditivă, cum ar fi poezii scurte, acronime sau fraze memorabile, dar mnemonica poate fi folosită și pentru alte tipuri de informații și în forme vizuale sau kinestezice. Utilizarea lor se bazează pe observația că mintea umană își amintește mai degrabă informații spațiale, personale, surprinzătoare, fizice, sexuale, pline de umor sau altfel "relatabile", decât forme mai abstracte sau impersonale de informare. Cuvântul mnemonic este derivat din cuvântul grecesc antic μνημονικός, adică "de memorie sau legat de memorie" și este legat de Mnemosyne, numele zeiței memoriei din mitologia greacă. Ambele cuvinte sunt derivate din memorie, "amintire, memorie". Mnemonicii din antichitate au fost cel mai des luați în considerare în contextul a ceea ce este cunoscut astăzi ca arta memoriei.
