Teoria modernizării
Teoria modernizării este o teorie folosită pentru a explica procesul de modernizare în cadrul societăților. Modernizarea se referă la un model al unei tranziții progresive de la o societate "pre-modernă" sau "tradițională" la "modernă". Teoria privește factorii interni ai unei țări, presupunând că, cu asistență, țările "tradiționale" pot fi aduse la dezvoltare în același mod în care țările mai dezvoltate au. Teoria modernizării încearcă să identifice variabilele sociale care contribuie la progresul social și dezvoltarea societăților și încearcă să explice procesul evoluției sociale. Teoria modernizării este supusă criticilor care apar între ideologiile socialiste și de piață liberă, teoreticienii sistemelor mondiale, teoreticienii globalizării și teoreticienii de dependență, printre altele. Teoria modernizării nu numai că subliniază procesul de schimbare, ci și răspunsurile la această schimbare. De asemenea, analizează dinamica internă, referindu-se la structurile sociale și culturale și la adaptarea noilor tehnologii. Unele națiuni, inclusiv China, văd modernizarea ca un ghid pentru dezvoltarea rapidă.
