Codul Morse
Codul Morse este o metodă de transmitere a informațiilor de text ca o serie de tonuri, lumini sau clicuri care pot fi înțelese direct de un ascultător calificat sau de un observator fără echipament special. Codul internațional Morse codifică alfabetul latin al limbii ISO, câteva litere latine suplimentare, cifrele arabe și un mic set de semnale de punctuație și procedură ca secvențe standardizate ale semnalelor scurte și lungi numite "puncte" și "liniuțe" sau "dits" și "dahs". Deoarece multe limbi naturale non-engleze folosesc mai mult decât cele 26 de litere romane, există extensii la alfabetul Morse pentru acele limbi. Fiecare caracter este reprezentat de o secvență unică de puncte și liniuțe. Durata unei liniuțe este de trei ori mai mare decât durata unui punct. Fiecare punct sau linie este urmată de o tăcere scurtă, egală cu durata punctului. Literele unui cuvânt sunt separate de un spațiu egal cu trei puncte, iar cuvintele sunt separate printr-un spațiu egal cu șapte puncte. Durata punctului este unitatea de bază a măsurării timpului în transmisia de coduri. Pentru eficiență, lungimea fiecărui personaj din Morse este aproximativ invers proporțională cu frecvența apariției în limba engleză.
