Teatru muzical
Teatrul muzical este o formă de spectacol teatral care combină cântecele, dialogul vorbit, actorii și dansul. Povestea și conținutul emoțional al unui muzical - umor, patos, dragoste, furie - sunt comunicate prin cuvintele, muzica, mișcarea și aspectele tehnice ale divertismentului ca un întreg integrat. Deși teatrul muzical se suprapune cu alte forme teatrale, cum ar fi opera și dansul, acesta se poate distinge prin importanța egală acordată muzicii în comparație cu dialogul, mișcarea și alte elemente. De la începutul secolului al XX-lea, lucrările de teatru muzical au fost, în general, numite, pur și simplu, muzicale. Deși muzica a făcut parte din prezentări dramatice din cele mai vechi timpuri, teatrul muzical occidental modern a apărut în secolul al XIX-lea, cu multe elemente structurale create de lucrările lui Gilbert și Sullivan din Marea Britanie și cele ale lui Harrigan și Hart din America. Acestea au fost urmate de numeroasele comedii muzicale Edwardian și de lucrările de teatru muzical ale unor creatori americani precum George M. Cohan.
