Filantropie
Filantropia înseamnă, în mod etimologic, "dragostea umanității" în sensul îngrijirii, hrănirii, dezvoltării și sporirii "a ceea ce este să fii uman" atât pe partea beneficiarilor cât și pe beneficiari. Cea mai convențională definiție modernă este "inițiativele private, pentru binele public, concentrându-se asupra calității vieții". Aceasta combină aspectul social științific dezvoltat în secolul XX cu tradiția umanistă originală și servește pentru a contracara filantropia cu afacerile și guvernul. Exemple de filantropie se suprapun în mod obișnuit cu exemple de caritate, deși nu toate filantropiile sunt filantropice sau invers. Diferența frecvent menționată este că caritatea ușurează durerile problemelor sociale, în timp ce filantropia încearcă să rezolve aceste probleme la cauzele lor principale. O persoană care practică filantropia este numită filantrop.
