Physiocracy
Fiziocrația este o teorie economică dezvoltată de un grup de economiști francezi din secolul al XVIII-lea, care credeau că bogăția națiunilor a fost derivată exclusiv din valoarea "agriculturii funciare" sau "dezvoltării terenurilor" și că produsele agricole ar trebui să fie la prețuri ridicate. Teoriile lor au provenit din Franța și au fost cele mai populare în a doua jumătate a secolului al XVIII-lea. Fiziocrația este probabil prima teorie bine dezvoltată a economiei. Mișcarea a fost dominată în special de François Quesnay și Anne-Robert-Jacques Turgot. A precedat imediat prima școală modernă, economie clasică, care a început odată cu publicarea lui Adam Smith, The Wealth of Nations, în 1776. Cea mai importantă contribuție a Fiziocraților a fost accentul pus pe munca productivă ca sursă a bogăției naționale. Acest lucru este în contrast cu școlile anterioare, în special mercantilismul, care se axa adesea pe bogăția domnitorului, pe acumularea aurului sau pe balanța comerțului.
