Cod postal
Un cod poștal este o serie de litere și / sau cifre atașate la o adresă poștală în scopul sortării corespondenței. După introducerea codurilor poștale, au devenit posibile alte aplicații. În februarie 2005, 117 dintre cele 190 de țări membre ale Uniunii Poștale Universale aveau sisteme de coduri poștale. Țările care nu dispun de sisteme naționale includ Irlanda și Ghana. Deși codurile poștale sunt de obicei atribuite zonelor geografice, codurile speciale sunt uneori atribuite adreselor individuale sau instituțiilor care primesc volume mari de corespondență, cum ar fi agențiile guvernamentale și marile companii comerciale. Un exemplu este sistemul CEDEX francez.
