În uz obișnuit, prețul este cantitatea de plată sau compensația acordată de o parte unei alte părți în schimbul unor bunuri sau servicii. În economiile moderne, prețurile sunt în general exprimate în unități de o anumită formă de monedă. Deși prețurile ar putea fi cotate ca cantități de alte bunuri sau servicii, acest tip de schimb de bursă este rareori văzut. Prețurile sunt uneori citate în termeni de vouchere, cum ar fi timbre comerciale și kilometri de zbor. În anumite circumstanțe, țigările au fost folosite ca monedă, de exemplu în închisori, în perioade de hiperinflație și în unele locuri în timpul celui de-al doilea război mondial.
