Psoriazisul postpartum este un termen care acoperă un grup de boli mintale cu apariția bruscă a simptomelor psihotice după nașterea copilului. Un exemplu tipic este ca o femeie să devină iritabilă, să aibă schimbări de dispoziție și halucinații extreme și, eventual, să aibă nevoie de spitalizare psihiatrică. Adesea, din teama de stigmate sau neînțelegeri, femeile își ascund starea. În acest grup există cel puțin o duzină de psihoze organice, care sunt descrise sub o altă rubrică "psihoze organice pre și postpartum". Forma non-organică relativ comună, încă predominantă în Europa, America de Nord și în întreaga lume, este uneori numită tulburare bipolară puerperală, din cauza legăturii sale strânse cu tulburarea depresivă maniacală; dar unele dintre aceste mame au simptome atipice, care se află sub titlul psihozei polimorfe acute. Mania Puerperal a fost descrisă pentru prima oară de către obstetricul german Friedrich Benjamin Osiander în 1797 și o literatură de peste 2000 de lucrări sa acumulat de atunci. Aceste psihoze sunt endogene, boli patologice cu debut acut, curs benign episodic și răspuns la normalizarea stării de spirit și tratamente pentru stabilizarea dispoziției.
