Krameria
Krameria este singurul gen din familia Krameriaceae, din care oricare din cele aproximativ 17 specii sunt cunoscute sub numele de Rhatany, Ratany sau Rattany. Rhatany este, de asemenea, numele dat rădăcină krameria, un remediu botanic constând din rădăcină uscată de para rhatany sau rhatany peruviană. Acțiunea biologică a rhatanului este cauzată de acidul rhataniatanic astringent, care este similar cu acidul tanic. Infuziile au fost folosite ca o gargară, o pastilă, mai ales atunci când sunt amestecate cu cocaină, ca o hemostatică locală și remediu pentru diaree. Când au fost pudră fină, rădăcinile uscate au furnizat un constituent frecvent de pulberi dinte. Rădăcinile sub formă de pudră au servit, de asemenea, în special în Portugalia, la vinurile de culoare roșu roșu. Coaja de rădăcină conține o substanță roșie liberă aproape insolubilă denumită roșu ratanhia. Krameria se găsesc pe teritoriul Americii, cu cea mai mare parte a regiunilor tropicale. Acestea sunt arbuști perene care acționează ca paraziți rădăcini pe alte plante. Florile au glande numite elaiophore care produc o lipidă care este colectată de albinele din genul Centris în timp ce polenizează florile.
