Febră reumatică
Febra reumatică este o boală inflamatorie care apare după o infecție cu Streptococcus pyogenes, cum ar fi faringita streptococică. Se crede că este cauzată de reactivitatea încrucișată a anticorpilor care poate implica inima, articulațiile, pielea și creierul; boala se dezvoltă de obicei în două până la trei săptămâni după o infecție streptococică. Febra reumatică acută apare frecvent la copiii cu vârste cuprinse între 6 și 15 ani, numai 20% dintre atacurile pentru prima dată apar la adulți. Boala este numită astfel datorită asemănării sale în prezentarea cu reumatismul.
