Popularitatea lor a scăzut, pe măsură ce mașinile, trenurile și alte forme de transport au devenit disponibile pe scară largă. Rickshaws-urile auto devin din ce în ce mai populare în unele orașe din secolul XXI ca o alternativă la taxiuri datorită costului lor scăzut.
