De asemenea, roșul, denumit și culoarul de culoare colofonică sau grecească, este o formă solidă de rășină obținută din pini și alte plante, mai ales conifere, produse prin încălzirea rășinii lichide proaspete pentru a vaporiza componentele terpene lichide volatile. Este semi-transparent și variază în culori de la galben la negru. La temperatura camerei, colofoniul este fragil, dar se topește la temperaturi înălțate. Se compune în principal din acizi rășini diferiți, în special acid abietic. Termenul "colofonie" vine de la colophonia resina sau "rășină din pinii de la Colophon", un vechi oraș ionic.

Rosin, also called colophony or Greek pitch, is a solid form of resin obtained from pines and some other plants, mostly conifers, produced by heating fresh liquid resin to vaporize the volatile liquid terpene components. It is semi-transparent and varies in color from yellow to black. At room temperature rosin is brittle, but it melts at stove-top temperatures. It chiefly consists of different resin acids, especially abietic acid. The term "colophony" comes from colophonia resina or "resin from the pine trees of Colophon," an ancient Ionic city.
