Socializarea este un termen folosit de sociologi, psihologi sociali, antropologi, politologi și educatori pentru a face referire la procesul de moștenire și difuzare a normelor, obiceiurilor și ideologiilor, oferind unui individ aptitudinile și obiceiurile necesare participării la propria societate . Socializarea este astfel "mijlocul prin care se realizează continuitatea socială și culturală". Socializarea descrie un proces care poate duce la rezultate dezirabile sau "morale" în opinia societății respective. Perspectivele individuale asupra anumitor aspecte, cum ar fi rasa sau economia, sunt influențate de opinia societății în ansamblu și devin o perspectivă sau o valoare normală, acceptabilă și valoroasă pe care trebuie să o aibă în cadrul unei societăți. Multe teorii socio-politice postulează că socializarea oferă doar o explicație parțială a credințelor și comportamentelor umane, susținând că agenții nu sunt "plăci goale" predeterminate de mediul lor. Cercetarea științifică oferă unele dovezi că oamenii pot fi influențați atât de influențe sociale, cât și de gene. Studiile genetice au arătat că mediul unei persoane interacționează cu genotipul său pentru a influența rezultatele comportamentale.
