Într-un instrument de coarde, postul de sunet sau suportul de zgomot este o mică dornă în interiorul instrumentului sub capătul trepte al podului, care se întinde între spațiul dintre plăcile superioare și cele din spate și este fixat prin frecare. Servește ca suport structural pentru un instrument de arcadă, transferă sunetul de la placa superioară la placa din spate și modifică tonul instrumentului prin schimbarea modurilor vibraționale ale plăcilor. Postul de sunet este uneori denumit âME, un cuvânt francez care înseamnă "suflet". Arcul a fost numit și sufletul acestor instrumente. Italienii folosesc același termen, anima, pentru asta. Posturile sonore sunt folosite: ▪ La toți membrii familiei de vioară; ▪ La unii membri ai familiei viol; ▪ În unele chitări arcopedice; ▪ În alte instrumente de șir.
