Strabismul, de asemenea cunoscut sub numele de heterotopie, este o afecțiune în care ochii nu sunt aliniate corespunzător unul cu celălalt. În mod obișnuit, aceasta implică o lipsă de coordonare între mușchii extraoculari, care împiedică privirea fiecărui ochi la același punct din spațiu și astfel împiedică vizibilitatea binoculară corespunzătoare și care poate afecta în mod negativ percepția adâncimii. Strabismul este administrat în principal de oftalmologi, optometriști și orthoptisti. Strabismul este prezent în aproximativ 4% dintre copii. Tratamentul trebuie început cât mai repede posibil pentru a asigura dezvoltarea celei mai bune acuități vizuale și stereopice vizuale.
