În teoria limbajului de programare, subtiparea este o formă de tip polimorfism în care un subtip este un tip de date care este legat de un alt tip de date printr-o noțiune de substituibilitate, ceea ce înseamnă că elementele de program, de obicei subrutine sau funcții, scrise pentru a funcționa pe elementele supertipului pot funcționează și pe elemente ale subtipului.
