Media aritmetică ponderată
Media ponderată este similară unei medii aritmetice, unde, în locul fiecărui punct de date care contribuie în mod egal la media finală, unele puncte de date contribuie mai mult decât altele. Noțiunea de medie ponderată joacă un rol în statisticile descriptive și are, de asemenea, o formă mai generală în mai multe alte domenii ale matematicii. Dacă toate greutățile sunt egale, atunci media ponderată este aceeași cu media aritmetică. În timp ce mijloacele ponderate se comportă în general într-o manieră similară cu mijloacele aritmetice, ele au câteva proprietăți contraintuitive, așa cum sunt capturate, de exemplu, în paradoxul lui Simpson.
