X-ray binar
Binarele cu raze X reprezintă o clasă de stele binare care sunt luminoase în raze X. Razele X sunt produse de materia care se încadrează de la o componentă, numită donator, la celălalt component, numit accretor, care este compact: un pitic alb, o stea neutronică sau o gaură neagră. Materia inflamatoare eliberează energie potențială gravitațională, până la câteva zecimi din masa de odihnă, ca raze X. Se estimează că 1041 de positroni evadă pe secundă de la o binară tipică cu raze X cu masă redusă.
