Poarta, sau puntea de legătură, este o mașină intermediară destinată în general interconectării rețelelor, a domeniilor de coliziune separate sau chiar traducerea protocoalelor. Exemple de gateway-uri pot fi routerele și firewall-urile, deoarece ambele servesc ca intermediari între utilizator și rețea.
