Derogasyon, bir kanunun kısmen feshi olup, bir yasanın kaldırılmasına veya bir yasanın kaldırılmasına karşı değildir. Terim hem medeni hukukta hem de ortak hukukta kullanılır. Bazen, gevşek olarak, hukuki özdeyişte olduğu gibi kaldırmayı kastetmek için kullanılır: Lex posterior derogat priori, yani daha sonraki bir kanun, bir öncekinin kaldırılmasını sağlar.
