Impasse, bir partinin konumunun orijinal olduğu ve yalnızca bir uzantılı hak talebi olmadığı konusunda güvenilir bir işaret sağlar. Partilerin kendi kendine hizmet etme yanlılığından muzdarip olmaları durumunda ihlal de ortaya çıkabilir. Çoğu anlaşmazlık, olguların birden fazla şekilde yorumlanabildiği durumlarda ortaya çıkar ve taraflar gerçekleri kendi lehlerine yorumlayarak karşı tarafın iddiasını makul olarak kabul edemeyebilirler. Diğer tarafın blöf yapıyor ya da haksız yere davranmakta olduğuna ve "cezalandırılmayı" hak ettiklerine inanabilirler.
