Levirate evlilik, ölen bir erkeğin kardeşinin kardeşinin dul eşi ile evlenmesi zorunluluğu olan dul eşin ölen kocasının kardeşiyle evlilikten geçirilmesi gereken bir evlilik türüdür. Levirate evliliği, evlilik dışı evliliğin yasak olduğu güçlü bir klan yapısı olan toplumlar tarafından uygulanmaktadır. Dünyadaki birçok toplumda bilinmektedir. Bu uygulama, dul eşin mirasçılığına benzer; burada, ölen kocanın yakınları, dul kadının evleneceği kişiyi emredebilir. Bu terim, "kocanın kardeşi" anlamına gelen Latince "levir" kelimesinin türevidir.
