Gecekondu

Bir gecekondu, standart olmayan konut ve skaler ile karakterize, nüfus yoğunluğunun yüksek olduğu kayıtdışı yerleşim yeridir. Yoksullar ülkeden ülkeye büyüklük ve diğer özelliklerde farklılık gösterse de çoğu, güvenilir sağlık hizmetleri, temiz su temini, güvenilir elektrik, zamanında kolluk ve diğer temel hizmetlerden yoksundur. Slum konutlar, gecekondu konutlarından kalitesiz tasarım ya da inşaat nedeniyle gecekondulara zarar veren profesyonelce yapılmış konutlara kadar değişir. Gecekondular, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri ve Avrupa'da 19. ve 20. yüzyılın başlarında yaygıntı. Yakın zaman önce gecekondular, ağırlıklı olarak dünyanın gelişmekte olan ve gelişmemiş bölgelerinde kentsel bölgelerde bulunmasına karşın, gelişmiş ekonomilerde de bulunmaktadır. UN-HABITAT'a göre 2012'de gelişmekte olan ülkelerdeki kentsel nüfusun yaklaşık% 33'ü, gecekonduda ise yaklaşık 863 milyon kişi yaşıyordu. Mahalle içinde yaşayan kentsel nüfusun oranı Sahra altı Afrika'da en yüksekti; bunu Güney Asya, Güneydoğu Asya, Doğu Asya, Batı Asya, Okyanusya, Latin Amerika ve Karayipler ve Kuzey Afrika izledi.
