Salyangoz, İyonik sütunun başkentinde bulunan iyon düzeninin temelini oluşturan spiral, kaydırma benzeri bir süs. Daha sonra Korint düzenine ve Bileşik sütun başlığına dahil edildi. Dördü normalde bir İon sermayesinde, sekiz tanesi Kompozit başkentlerde, daha küçük versiyonlarda Korint egemenliğinde bulunur. Sözcük Latince volutadan türemiştir. Süsün bir koç boynuzunun eğrisinden esinlendiği veya belki de Yunanistan'a özgü yonca ortak bir türünün ovülünün doğal sarmalından türemiş olduğu ileri sürülmüştür. Alternatif olarak, sadece geometrik kökenlerden olabilir. Süsleme, Rönesans ve Barok mimarisinin bir unsuru olarak kullanılır ve mobilya tasarımı, gümüş ve seramikte ortak bir dekorasyona sahiptir. Kompleks geometrinin çizilmesi için bir yöntem klasik binalar ve yapılardan antik Roma mimar Vitruvius tarafından tasarlanmıştır.
